493 Girls Were Raped in 8 Months

 




493 girls were raped in 8 months from January to August this year. Apart from this, 101 girls have been victims of attempted rape. This information was given in a press conference organized by the National Girl Child Advocacy Forum on Wednesday.

At the National Press Club of the capital, the press conference titled 'Girl Child Situation Monitoring Report', unveiled the report titled 'Overall Status of Girl Child: Bangladesh Context 2021-2022' and 'Monitoring the Image of Torture and Violence against Girl Child-2023'.

National Girl Child Advocacy Forum editor Nachima Akhtar Jolly presented the keynote at the press conference. He said torture and violence are getting worse day by day because of the culture of impunity. Criminals are constantly encouraged to commit criminal activities.

According to the original article, in 8 months, 136 girl child murders, 181 suicides, 329 girl child sexual harassment and torture, 30 pornography, 2 acid violence, 104 kidnapping and trafficking, 26 domestic worker abuse and 36 girl child physical and sexual abuse in their educational institutions. At this time, 260 girls were subjected to child marriage in 136 unions of 52 upazilas of 23 districts of the country. Apart from this, 11 female children have been abandoned at different places, 307 children have died after falling into water, 27 children have died due to snake bites.

Badiul Alam Majumdar, President of National Girl Child Advocacy Forum, said in the press conference, women and girls in Bangladesh have come a long way as a result of various initiatives of the government as well as various non-governmental organizations. But they are still suffering from various types of torture and discrimination. The prosperity of the nation will not be ensured if the proper development and opportunities of the girl child are not ensured. Investments should be increased for the development of girl child.

In the press conference, with special emphasis on all the cases of child abuse, rape and murder, to complete the judicial proceedings in the fastest time, to enact a law called 'Sexual Harassment Prevention and Remedies Act' for all levels to prevent harassment, sexual harassment and oppression; Amending the provisions of existing law by adding that in cases of custodial rape, the accused, rather than the victim, must prove that he did not commit the incident; Creation of separate Directorate of Child Protection; Ensuring proper use of technology by girls; 10 recommendations are made to protect them from the negative aspects of technology.
