Disappeared While Hanging Out With Friends, Returned Five Months Later as a Skeleton


Rakib Hossain Molya (23) was a worker in a meat shop in Shariatpur's Palang Bazaar. Went out to hang out with friends and went missing. After 5 months and 10 days, the police recovered his skeleton (remains) from a bill. The family identified the body by looking at the jersey. He was buried on Wednesday evening after post-mortem and DNA sample collection.

According to the police, the deceased Rakib is the son of Nurul Islam Molya of Narbalakhana village in Palang union of Sadar upazila. He left home on April 17 and never returned. Finding nowhere, the family filed a General Diary (GD) at Palang Model Police Station on April 19.



Then on May 5, a case of kidnapping was filed against three persons at Palang Model Police Station. The police arrested the three accused in the case and sent them to jail. Two of them are on bail and one is in jail.

According to the police and local sources, some children and teenagers went for bird hunting in North Bilashkhan Bill of Ward No. 2 of the municipality on Tuesday evening. They saw part of a jersey floating and picked it up. They screamed when they saw human bones with jerseys. After receiving information from the local people, the police recovered the remains of the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue. Relatives of missing Rakib identified it as Rakib's body after seeing the jersey with the remains. The body was handed over today after post-mortem and DNA sample collection.

Shariful Islam, the investigating officer of the case, told Prothom Alo that Rakib was a victim of murder at the time of his disappearance. His body was buried in the ground of the bill. The bones of the body are exposed. The head is separated. After post-mortem and DNA samples, the remains have been handed over to the relatives.
