| Now MV Rajarhat-C Wants to go from Dhaka To Kolkata |
After
seven decades in 2019, a government-initiated tourist ship was launched on the
Dhaka-Kolkata route (route), but as it was not profitable, the ship named 'MV
Madhumati' was scrapped after its maiden voyage in March of the same year. A
private company named MK Shipping Lines wants to launch tourist ships on this
route. In the meantime, the company has applied to the Ministry of Shipping for
permission.
If MK
Shipping Lines gets the approval, it will be the country's first privately run
tourist ship on international routes. The vessel named 'MV Rajarhat-C' is
planned to be launched from November. It is ready for travel. MK Shipping
authorities say that if successful, the regular tourist ship will be operated
from Dhaka to Kolkata.
However,
an official of the Ministry of Shipping told Prothom Alo that the first
experience of operating a tourist ship from Dhaka to Kolkata was not a pleasant
one. Many tourists then questioned the service. This time, the ministry is very
careful not to make the same mistake again. More attention is being paid to
ensure that the incident does not happen again.
